Pathology

We have a range of up to date in-house diagnostic machines and services that assist our team to quickly diagnose a range of medical conditions and allow us to monitor critically ill hospital patients. For more complex cases we  send samples to specific laboratories for specialist pathologist opinion. Our pathology services include the following:

Biochemistry, Haematology and Electrolytes

We have a range of different health profiles which include biochemistry, haematology and electrolytes which can be run in our in-house pathology machines. These provide us with accurate and fast results regarding your pets red and white cell counts, kidney and liver parameters, level of dehydration and more.

We are able to collect cells and investigate lumps, perform ear & skin swabs, look at faeces, urine and blood smears with our range of stains and microscope equipment in house.

Culture and sensitivity

Cultures grown in incubators from wounds, discharges , saliva, urine, faecal matter give a good indication of bacteria or fungal strains causing problems. This allows us to initiate the correct treatment plan and specific antibiotics if required to treat the problem quickly.

Parasitology

Picture
We see a wide range of parasites in companion animals. At Grafton vet clinic we have the facilities to investigate potential parasite issues and can readily perform skin scrapes, blood smears, faecal floats and plucked hairs etc. and examine these under the microscope to help us to make a diagnosis.
