Dentistry
Good teeth are integral to your horses good health. Poorly maintained dental arcades lead to digestive problems (such as colic, choke and weight loss) and also result in bad performance, with problems such as resisting the bit, head shaking and poorly balanced movement.
We use the latest motorized equipment to correct the common irregularities such as sharp enamel points on the molar arcades, rostral & caudal hooks, wave mouth, elevated transverse ridges, and incisor re-alignment. Wolf teeth and deciduous cap removal is also undertaken when required.
The benefit to the horse of a skilled veterinary dental exam is that with the use of sedation, light source and mirror, a proper examination of all the oral cavity and teeth can be undertaken prior to any maintenance or corrective dental work. Our dental vets have undergone post graduate training in Equine Dentistry.
Young horses need examining every six months, and horses over 5 years once a year.
